Just another weekend

Some of our very bet weekends are those that are filled with nothing other than spending time together.

My god mother Cathy....who i talked about well over two years ago after her horrific accident, came to visit us for a weekend from Texas.

We had dinner and brunch and just laid around.
Asher walked around on my dads feet just like I used to do when i was a little girl...

and rode on daddy's back playing horsey...

and more horsey...

Asher also got into the post it notes...
and decided that we all needed to wear them on their faces...
we are good sports.

of course what fun would the game be if the creator didnt participate...

Asher Cheesin with beautiful Cathy...
SHE LOOKS AMAZING.
we can not get over her amazing recovery.
she still has several more surgeries to go, but she has come such a long way.

we are looking forward to many more upcoming chill weekends!

October 31st!

Halloween was an absolute blast.
We did everything we could do go all out.
Corn stalks...
Lights...
Bows...
Black Planters...
Bloody Gauze...
Strobe Lights...
Smoke Machines...
Pumpkins.....
Our customary chilli...
Parents over for trick o' treating...
20+ lbs of candy (which was ALL gone by the end of the night)
insane amounts of trick o' treaters...
kids with excellent manners (yay!)

We snapped a quick photo with our lovely next door neighbors the Cardenas'
It feels like yesterday when Amelia was just a little over 1 and we were celebrating her first trick o' treating experience.

Nana and Poppy dressed since I begged them!

Daddy's little dino...

or is he an alligator?

mommy stayed in costume ALL day

sweet young boy passing out candy.
asher trekked up our entire street and back.
probably at least 20 houses. so proud.

the scary monster was eating daddy...
argghhghghghgh....

enough of the hat....

softa joined us up the street...

someone is super happy with all of his candy loot!

Drilled pumpkins were "the thing" in our house this year.
Mainly because I got so caught up with the decor the last thing I had time for was carving pumpkins.

I took all different sized drill bits and just had at it. I learned that you can carve out the bottom instead of the top to keep the pretty pumpkin appearance.
I LOVE this idea.
I made flowers, fun designs etc.

This was a last minute decision... Asher LOVES Buzz Lightyear..
Actually he is obsessed. He talked about this pumpkin for over two weeks...until it was caved in and no longer a pumpkin carving...

I also painted pumpkins and sparkled them...

We hope you all enjoyed your Halloween as much as we did....
on to Thanksgiving and Hanukkah!!!

Costumes & Cocktails

after realizing that we are a little obsessed with themed holidays we decided that we were going to have an adult Halloween Party this year. it gave me an excuse (like i need one) to be super crafty, decorate and invite friends over for a party.

i mailed out invites....and started decorating...

of course pinterest was my inspiration for most everything i did.

Flying Bats (Entryway Hall)
philip spent a football sunday cutting out these bats that we taped to the wall with double sided tape to appear as though they were flying up the wall. best of all they never fell down and peeled right off. one of my favorite decorations.

Rag Wreath:
I purchased 2-3 yards of Halloween fabric, cut it into strips and tied them to a wreath form.
Painted 3 letters white and slapped them on with a glue gun. Voila.

Crash-The Party Cupcakes (Oreo Cupcakes)
Oreo in the bottom, Yellow Cake with oreo pieces and Homemade Oreo Frosting
These were amazing. I cant believe I actually made them. The frosting was insanely thick but tasted delicious.

Closer look at this delicacy

Mummy Pops
These are oreo balls. Oreos in a food processor, mixed with a block of room temperature cream cheese. Formed into appropriate shape and dipped and stripped in white chocolate.

Healthy Habits:
Brie, Cheddar, Black and Purple Grapes.
I loved how it brought in the halloween colors!

More Mouthwatering Mummy Pops.
Loved the display.
I spray painted several pumpkins brushed silver and black with sparkles.

Pumpkin Pie Dip with Ginger Snaps
This recipie was from a coworker...
1 tub of cool whip. 1 small package of instant vanilla pudding, pumpkin pie spice, can of pumpkin. Mix it all together and server with ginger snaps or graham crackers. DELICIOUS.

Halloween Trash:
Probably the biggest hit and our most favorite.
I found this on pinterest. Melt dark chocolate down. Line two small bar pans with foil.
Prep candy bars.
Cut in small chunks:
Reese Peanut Butter Cups, health Bars, M&M's, honey roasted peanuts, butterfinger's (about 8 fun sized bar's each)
Spread melted chocolate all over pan.
Spread chunky candy bars pieces.
Put in freeze for 30 minutes.
Warm white chocolate.
Put it in a bag to be "pipped" over the other ingredients.
Spread in a back and forth pattern over candy bars.
Freeze another 30 minutes.
Peel foil off the back of the chocolate and break apart in large chunks.

Tombstones:
Rice Krisipie Treats
Milano Cookies Dipped into chocolate.

Fruity Frankensteins
Chocolate Dipped Strawberries!

Posessed Pumpkin
Two carrot cake bundt cakes on top of each other which cream cheese frosting between them.
Glazed with vanilla cream cheese frosting.

The Table Set for Company!

Check out the cute pumpkin shaped carrot and celery display :)
Also missing photos for Bean Brains. Pre made in a jar from Trader Joes...Large White Beans in a red greek sauce. Delicious but look gross!

A little errie look.

A few pumpkins lit up!

My favorite idea.
The "drilled" pumpkin.
I used all different sized drill bits to design this pumpkin!

The entrance to our house at night...
Cobwebs everywhere...
Cornstalks guiding the way
Orange lights and guaze incasing our door...
Strobe Lights flashing and fog machine pumping!

Philip decided to this one night to our study doors.
I loved it. SO proud of him and his craftiness!
I think I am inspiring him :)

Creepy Cocktails
Midori, Orange/Pineapple Juice and Vodka with Fresh Fruit.

The alcohol table....
Funny we had so much since almost 1/4 of the party was pregnant...(NOT ME)

Gearing up for our first drink....

The Brain Shooter...
1/2 shot glass Peach Schnapps
1/4 shot glass Baileys
A few drops of Grenadine

Looks disgusting....feels a little gross going down (like a brain, duh)

I was a little nervous because it looked so gross...but it was DELICIOUS!!!!

Our cute BEER pumpkin!

Jello Shooters in props from our costumes

Our first guests arrived...

Loving the costumes...

We hosted as surgeons...

Kitty and her "nice jewish boy"

partaking in the shots.

The party was a great time.
Of course I made about 5x way too much food.
It was a ton of work but so worth it.
Next year.... Im thinking scale it back to pumpkin carving party with the kiddos :)

....Halloween Photos to follow of Asher!
