The Mint

This week we attended a special event put on by the Young Adult Division of the Charlotte Jewish Federation at the Mint Museum of Craft and Design. They had a roof top party and then we toured the exhibit From the Melting Pot into the Fire: Contemporary Ceramics in Israel.

From the Melting Pot into the Fire: Contemporary Ceramics in Israel includes some of the most acclaimed ceramic artists working in Israel today. Ranging from the satirical to the sublime, 38 examples of ceramic sculpture address issues of identity within an immigrant society. Themes such as borders and boundaries will resonate with the American audience.This is the only United States showing of this exhibition co-coordinated by Yael Novak. She is in charge of the foreign affairs for the Ceramic Artists Association of Israel.

Here is one of my personal favorites

This project was supposedly part of the individual's thesis and this art form has never been done before. This is made completely out of porcelain with no other supports. The shape took form in the firings of the porcelain. Each piece is about 3 feet tall!

The exhibit was amazing and we could've stayed in there for hours if my body wasn't pretty tired after a day of work and then being on my feet for 3 hours at the event. Since I have such a love and passion for ceramics I was in total awe of the art that was on display and all of the artists stories.
